2010 Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling & Substance Abuse
The seventh annual Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse was held July 28-30 at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center, 2345 McGee St., in Kansas City. More than 200 addiction experts, treatment providers and representatives of the gambling industry attended the three-day multi-state summit.

The event kicked off on July 28 with two keynote addresses and a plenary panel titled, "Recovery Systems – A Collaborative Approach," featuring experts in the judicial, treatment, industry, child welfare and consumer fields.

2008 Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling & Substance Abuse
More than 200 addiction experts, treatment providers and representatives of the gambling industry, from 20 states and three countries, gathered in St. Louis for the fifth annual Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse at the Crowne Plaza Hotel-Clayton, 7750 Carondelet Ave. Aug. 13-15. "Roads to Recovery - A Collaborative Approach" was the focus of the conference, which was partially funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

2007 National Conference on Problem Gambling
A record number of conference attendees took part in the 2007 National Conference on Problem Gambling. More than 500 people attended the 21st Annual Conference on Problem Gambling, Prevention, Research, Recovery and Treatment, which was held June 8-10 at the Marriott Downtown in Kansas City. Panel discussions included: "Casino Gambling Comes to Kansas: Politics, Profits and Problem Gambling," "God, Gambling, Law and Treatment: Unique Perspectives from Recovery" and "The two Addictions of the New Millennium: The Impact of Technology on Problem Gambling and Sexual Compulsivity."


2006 Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling & Substance Abuse
The third annual Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling & Substance Abuse was held Aug. 16-18, 2006, in Kansas City. More than 280 people attended the three-day event. To view presentations from the 2006 conference, click here.

Dr. H. Westley Clark, director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment at SAMHSA, presented the opening keynote address, “Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse,” on the morning of Aug. 25.

Joanna Franklin, director of Network Development and Training for Trimeridian Inc., Indianapolis, Ind., presented a keynote address on preventing burnout, and a third keynote address was presented by Jeffrey Derevensky, a professor of School/Applied Child Psychology at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec. Derevensky's presentation was "Youth Gambling: Some Critical Issues & Causes for Concern."

2005 Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling & Substance Abuse
Leading problem gambling experts headlined the second annual Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse, Aug. 24-26, in Kansas City. More than 240 people took part in the conference, which included a variety of workshops, panel discussions and keynote speakers. To view presentations from the 2005 conference, click here.

Keynote addresses were presented by: Loreen Rugle, coordinator of the Gambling Treatment Program at the Louis Stokes Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland; Dr. H. Westley Clark, director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment at SAMHSA; Robert Ladouceur, professor of psychology at the Université Laval in Quebec City.

Motivational keynote addresses were presented by: Nick Mezacapa, rector of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester, Minn.; and Ron Willis, founder of Green Porch Swing Productions in Kansas City.
2004 Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling & Substance Abuse

Keynote addresses during the 2004 conference were presented by Deborah Haskins, affiliate professor of psychology and the director of Masters Field Education in Psychology at Loyola College in Maryland; Dr. H. Westley Clark, the director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and Bill Eadington, professor of economics and the director of the Institute for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming.
